Our speaker for March is Bill Dowling of the New Britain Rock Cats who will talk to us about marketing in a different environment. Here is Bill's biography. We all look forward to hearing Bill speak, as we had to cancel last year due to weather. William F. Dowling, Esq. begins his eighth season as the President and Managing Partner of the New Britain Rock Cats Baseball Club, the Double-A affiliate of the Minnesota Twins. Bill is a graduate of Columbia University and received his law degree from Boston College Law School in 1973. He served as an Assistant District Attorney in Manhattan from 1973-1977 and was chief of the New York State Attorney General's criminal division for an additional six years. From 1986-1988, Dowling served as the Executive Vice President of the New York Yankees where he reported directly to Principal Owner George Steinbrenner, III. His specific duties with the club included the negotiation of all media, marketing, concession, labor, and employment agreements associated with the operations of a Major League Baseball team, as well as the supervision of all legal counsel. Bill was also responsible for the daily operations of the franchise including supervision of all team personnel, as well as serving as the director of the New York Yankees Foundation, which raises funds for numerous charitable events. Upon his departure from the Yankees, Dowling was named the club's outside counsel, handling a wide variety of litigation and corporate matters for the team. Dowling currently practices law at the Manhattan law firm, Wachtel & Masyr, LLP. Bill enjoyed immediate success after becoming President/General Manager of New Britain Baseball, Inc. in February, 2000. Eastern League President William B. Troubh selected Bill as the 2000 Eastern League Executive of Year. Under Bill's ownership, the New Britain Rock Cats have shattered every attendance record in franchise history, and have achieved seven consecutive season's of attendance growth.
